owning your own horse is their ultimate dream
 For Fiona Burgoyne

This is a year Fiona Burgoyne, who runs her Horsechoice  - horse sales service business- from her Edinburgh yard, will never forget!

Fiona is one of Scotland’s most successful and well known show jumpers, when she is not show jumping she is selling horses for clients who bring horses to her from all over the UK. She has always had few horses of her own which she had produced and sold on however this year has seen her produced horses reach new heights – quite literally!

Take Volcano for instance - there can’t be many Scottish show jumping fans who do not know this stunning black gelding by Tornado, having watched him compete in the Hickstead Derby ridden by Scotland’s  hugely talented Douglas Duffin.  What a nail biter that was! Douglas and Volcano led for much of the competition and ended up an incredible 3rd equal. For Fiona who had developed the horse, owner Jullie McClelland and Douglas this superb result was no real surprise as only a few weeks earlier the partnership came 3rd in the prestigious Luman derby in Germany.

When Fiona first saw Volcano, 17.2 hh, now 8 years old, she knew instinctively that he had potential, she bought it, then sold it on to Julie who asked Fiona to compete and produce it on her behalf, this she did successfully and was regularly in the winning line up at competitions up to 1.30 meters. The next step was international competition – and even bigger jumps, therefore Fiona and Julie were delighted when Douglas agreed to take over as rider. There is no doubt that Volcano is one of the best show jumpers to be produced in Scotland in recent years – and that the best is yet to come.

Another recent success for Fiona is Waganini, her own 17.2 hh 8 year old gelding. She bought this horse last year from a yard in Holland, at that time it had mainly competed in Dressage along with some novice show jumping. Again she went on to compete him successfully around Scotland before handing the reins over to Douglas with their sights set on International success.

In July Fiona was once again delighted when Douglas and Wagganini won the Derby House Winter Novice Championship held in the International arena at the Royal International, Hickstead.

With more exciting show jumping prospects in her yard and business booming at Horsechoice – these are exciting times for Fiona –
as she say’s – “ it just keeps getting better”.
